Fall Activities

September 16th, 2017 at 4:39pm

The Lodge at Whitefish Lake is perfectly located right in the heart of Glacier Park Country. Whitefish and the surrounding areas give us endless opportunities to explore and enjoy the fall colors. The Whitefish mountainsides hit their most colorful time in fall as the larch and aspen turn a bright yellow to gold color and contrast sharply against the dark evergreens. This sweet spot in time is a favorite of photographers, professional and amateur alike. You can a relaxing day on the town or get off the beaten trail by hiking, biking, horseback or on the water. Whitefish has the perfect day of discoveries in store for you!

Hike Glacier National Park
Whitefish is only 30 minutes from Glacier National Park. Though portions of the road are open year-round, the famed Going-to-the-Sun Road is open to cars from the St. Mary entrance until mid-October, weather dependent. Hillsides are covered in the golden changing needles of the Western Larch tree contrasted by the white of the first snowfall on the mountain peaks. Fall is a great time for wildlife watching, as mountain goats and bighorn sheep frequent the higher elevations and bears and elk roam through the lower valleys.

Golf Digest named Northwest Montana one of the world's top 50 golf course destinations. With nine championship golf courses, Golf Digest’s declaration is not a surprise familiar with the outstanding quality and affordability of the valley’s golf courses. Enjoy the fall colors with a relaxing round any of the championship golf courses in the area. Be sure to check out our Golf & Stay Package to get a great deal!

Thirty-six miles of Trail!
Pure bliss for mountain bikers and hikers alike, the Whitefish Trail starts only two miles from downtown Whitefish and offers 36 miles of flowy intermediate singletrack perfect for bikers all ages and skill abilities. The changing larch trees provide the backdrop and strategically placed benches give well-deserved rest stops with unbeatable views.

Fly Fishing
Fall fly fishing is a great activity for the Flathead Valley-the mornings and evenings are a bit cool but sun warms the water up by mid morning and the fish start biting! Guided trips are available throughout the Valley and our concierge can help set you up with a well experienced outfitter.

Sunset Paddle on Whitefish Lake
Launch a paddleboard or kayak right here at the marina and paddle into the sunset along the calm shoreline of the clear blue Whitefish Lake, surrounded by ribbons of gold, blue, and purple mountains. Paddle back and enjoy cocktails on the deck or inside the Boat Club, a well-deserved dinner, or a rest by the large open fireplace.
