Sponsored by the Lodge at Whitefish Lake, Foley Family Wines, Fun Beverage, Georges Distributing, and Intermountain Distributing Company, the Whitefish Wine Auction raises proceeds for the Whitefish Lake Institute (WLI) to support their work protecting the water quality in Whitefish Lake and its surrounding bodies of water. WLI undertakes the indigenous water supply issues with a holistic and innovative approach by developing collaborative relationships with various local organizations, educators, citizen groups, and management agencies. Through consistent monitoring and field research, WLI strives to provide the most current and accurate scientific information available, ensuring the protection of water quality for one of the few communities that still relies on surface water for its local supply.

The first night of the wine auction in Whitefish offered an international wine tasting journey for attendees, with wines featured from vineyards throughout the California, New Zealand, and Pacific Northwest regions, as well as local wines. Raffles and entertainment from Fresh Off the Vine created a night of memories for guests. The second night of the event featured a four course family style dinner, paired with Foley Family Wines. Participants were given opportunity to bid on specialty wine lots, wine tours, adventures, and numerous unique local items and services through silent and live wine auction, provided by 90 organizations and individuals.

The Whitefish Wine Auction brings approximately $30,000 to the Whitefish Lake Institute, making further research, education, and water protection for our community possible. In 2009, the Averill family donated 30 acres of wetland surrounding the Viking Creek to the institute. The area is now a protected nature preserve, forever safeguarding the land that naturally clarifies the waters flowing into the lake.
